Elese+Corey: Tidal Basin Vow Renewal

A couple weeks ago I received an email from Elese. She and her husband Corey were getting ready to celebrate their 10th anniversary and wanted a photographer to cover their vow renewal ceremony at the Tidal Basin. There was NO DOUBT in my mind that I wanted to be there. There weren't any guests, just her, her husband, and a minister (Terry who was awesome by the way). That's pretty much a photographers dream! Not that guests aren't awesome, they are very entertaining and provide for some of the best and most emotion packed photography you can get, but there's something so sweet, so personal and intimate, about it being just the two of them, and I jumped at the chance. Plus, I got an hour and a half of portraits with them where you usually get 30 minutes on a wedding day, so yea, it was awesome.

We met bright and early next to the Jefferson Memorial and it really couldn't have been a more beautiful day. There was a perfect little breeze that would float through every couple minutes and the sky was spotless of clouds. I'm so so happy I had the chance to meet this amazing couple. We had a great time and got some beautiful images. Congrats on 10 years Elese and Corey!!

Ambreen+Nader: Washington DC Engagement

As some of you may or may not know, I was born in D.C. and moved out to VA when I was little. But up until we left the city, I'm pretty sure my mother took my two brothers and I to just about every museum, exhibit, playground, ANYTHING under the DC sun to keep us busy. Even though we did eventually leave the city, I would come back fairly often and of course, now I live here. That's twenty two years of my exploring DC. But for whatever reason, I've never been to the National Building Museum. When Ambreen and I were brainstorming locations, she sent an email and mentioned the NBM. I did some googling and my mind was blown!!! Ladies and gents, if you live in the DC area and have never been to this museum, GO THERE. It is gorgeous.

Anyways, when Ambreen told me about the museum, we both knew we had to go there. So that's where we started and it was awwwweesommmmme. Ambreen and Nader tried to tell me they were nervous...PLEASE, you see those shots right?!?? Straight fierce. Seriously they rocked it. From there we met up in G-town, my stomping ground and therefore on of my favorite locals. I've gotten in the nasty habit of tempting clients into "street shots", where we run out in front of traffic for photos. But that's just my clients...they live dangerously. So from there it was off to the Jefferson Memorial for some evening shots and it was le gorgeous.

Ambreen and Nader you guys rocked it! Congrats!!!!

I love the architecture!!!

I freaking love these two...

Oh what a difference the light makes

So the other day my good friend Chris told me he was selling his Nikon F100 film camera, and being a gear junkie, I immediately offered to buy it. A couple days later, I met up with another good friend and former roommate Toby for some portraits with film. I'd worked extensively with B&W film, but this was my first foray into color film, and let me tell you, it was GLORIOUS. We met at 7:30 and the light, oh the light!!!!! Seriously beautiful. Toby, however, is a really horrible horrible model. I mean really terrible. Kid wouldn't sit still, and when he did, it was only because he was doing things like the first photo below. I think he just wanted to ensure he would never be a guinea pig for me again...so congrats on that Toblerone you succeeded. Now unfortunately, something went wrong with the AF in the camera and most of the photos look like free-lensing in reverse. Which if any photo-nerds out there know what I'm talking about and know what's wrong, drop me a line. Basically, the edges of the photos, mostly at the bottom of the image, are in focus, while the center is pretty blurred out. I used my new (eeek!!!) Nikor 50mm 1.4D which gave me some bokeh deliciousness. But anywho, here's two of the shots that came out. I'm really excited because I'm thinking about incorporating more film into wedding/portrait work. HollA!!!

Megan+Jonah: Georgetown Waterfront Engagement

I'm going to have to call this the "miracle engagement session". Megan and I must have about a THOUSAND emails of us going back and forth trying to work out our crazy schedules, but we finally did it! I met with her and Jonah down by the Georgetown Waterfront, but instead of spending too much time where most other photogs tend to gravitate in the park, we went for a slightly more urban feel. We were actually supposed to go to Roosevelt Island, but thank God I checked it out the week before we were scheduled to meet, because the whole island is under construction and Meg and I both agreed that it was just not cute.

But these two are BEYOND adorable. I love when couples click so well together. I remember during our session when we were waiting for the clouds to clear out for some better light, and Meg and Jonah were just talking, and Jonah leaned in to wipe a little dirt from Meg's cheek. You'd a thought you were watching a Nicholas Sparks (yes I just referenced the guy that wrote The Notebook) novel unfold right in front of you. Seriously, too cute. Anyways, congrats again you guys!!!!
