Gettin' Back To My Roots
Last year, just about once a week, I hopped on my bike and went exploring with my camera. I love this city and I love photographing the people that live here. Since I've gotten into wedding photography, it's sort of taken a back seat because I've been so busy. But last night my impulsive streak got the best of me and I took off for downtown around 9pm. I usually try and steer clear of the monuments because they're photographed to death, but I hadn't actually been up to the Washington Monument in ages. If you haven't already, you have to explore the mall at night. It really is a completely different environment and I think, much more beautiful (and also about 20 degrees cooler). Here's a couple shots from the evening!

Angela+Kevin: Georgetown Observatory Engagement Session
The old observatory on the Georgetown campus is a spot I've been DYING to shoot with a couple for a months now. In one of my previous posts, I headed up there with my friend Toby and my film camera to play around with the location, but I knew I had to get a couple up there. When Angela and Kevin agreed I was ecstatic! As it turns out, Angela is basically from my home town and went to my mother's alma mater, Auburn. I love how small DC can seem sometimes. I had a blast working with her and Kevin. They're probably two of the nicest most genuine people I've ever met. When we left after out session, I didn't wait two minutes before uploading these photos, because I knew how awesome they would be, and people, I was right. Every time I flip through their set, I can't help but smile! Their energy is infectious and they're such a fantastic couple. Anywho, congrats again you two!!!

Lisa+Adam: Tidal Basin Engagement Session
I met up with Adam and Lisa bright and early at the Tidal basin the other morning and it really could not have been more beautiful out. The light was perfect, temperature was tolerable (which is a big deal for DC in the summer), and there WERE NO TOURIST (an even bigger deal). It was fantastic. I can't tell you how often I'm used to waiting for rando's to get out of my frame before I can get a picture, especially at the Tidal Basin which is usually crawling with tourists. So when they chose to meet me in the morning, I was pumped. After the Tidal basin, we headed over to Logan Circle for some shots against all the beautiful Victorian architecture DC has to offer. Adam and Lisa were also subjected to my "run for your life traffic!" shots, but they're my fave. You'll see. The whole thing was an awesome session with some awesome people and I had a great time.
Adam and Lisa, you guys were awesome! Congrats!

Erin+Evan: St. Alban's School Wedding
I met Erin and Evan way, way, WAAaaayyy the heck back in December at St. Albans School to do a run through of their wedding. The school is located directly next to the National Cathedral and the beautiful Bishop's Garden. Unfortunately, what with it being the dead of winter, everything was brown and partially covered in snow, but geeeze I never expected it to be as beautiful as it was for Evan and Erin's wedding. The gardens were full of flowers and it smelled fantastic. Being so beautiful, it's a natural spot for tourists, lots and lots of tourist. All of whom were especially fond of plaid that day and kept wandering into our shots. Nevertheless, you'll see all the gorgeous shots we got on the grounds of the Cathedral gardens.
Y'all, this couple was fantastic. They were SO adorable and completely in love. Also, they were the first couple that booked me for a wedding when I had next to nothing to show for wedding photography. Actually, I pretty much had nothing besides my photojournalism work and some portraits. I am so grateful to Erin+Evan for having so much faith in me and letting me be their photographer. I had a great time at your gorgeous wedding guys! Congrats again!
